EU Cookie Directive - A User-Focussed Assessment of Compliance in Ireland and UK

Darren Fitzpatrick - Espion

Changes in EU Privacy and Electronic Communications Legislation are placing increasing emphasis on the appropriate storage and use of personal information on websites and mobile applications that use cookies and similar technologies. In June of this year, Espion ran a study on 100 prominent websites across Ireland and the UK, investigating compliance to the cookie directive. The findings indicate significant disparity in compliance, and have implications for all public-facing websites and applications.

In addition to discussion of the findings, Espion will discuss the main steps necessary for requirements, as well as future potential changes to cookie related legislation that could lead to increased future compliance requirements.
