Adrian Rath - Royal College of Physicians o...
The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland is Irelandís largest postgraduate medical training organisation. Its mission is to train, educate and continuously develop doctors for current and future societal needs; leading medical expert on matters; develop clinical leaders; collaborator to drive healthcare improvements; develop and maintain standards and guidelines to support best medical practice.
Its ICT organisation provides a broad portfolio of services to its staff and 6000+ user population spread both nationally and globally using a mix of Software as a Service (SaaS), and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).
It has transformed its self owned and housed server infrastructure and related services from an end of life, unreliable, elevated risk service delivery to one which is delivered as a service. In doing so it has avoided major capital expenditure, significantly reduced risk to the service and the business while improving reliability and service levels. It has also added new service capabilities to how servers are managed which the RCPI ICT Team was unable to on its own.
This presentation explores the RCPIís business requirements, the journey towards obtaining IaaS and the design of a resilient virtualised architecture and RCPIís shared experiences to date.
