LT: Smartbay - Ireland's Marine Test, Demo & Validation Facility

SmartBay operate Ireland’s national test facility for marine technology which includes the recently commissioned and operational subsea observatory. The Marine Institute (MI) and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) have been working together to promote and develop Ireland’s marine potential through the subsea observatory, with partners SmartBay Ltd, University College Cork (UCC) and Dublin City University (DCU). This forms part of a programme to enhance Ireland’s marine infrastructure with the observatory and associated subsea power and data cable having been funded through a combination of Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine (DAFM) funding.

An overview on how device and sensor data acquisition, data communications options, data transmission via HEAnet and data visualisation tools can be integrated to develop an innovative, robust, flexible and secure cyber-infrastructure which provides numerous benefits to subsea equipment developers will be reviewed as part of the presentation.
