Jon is head of the UIS's Network Division, which provides network and telecommunications services across the broad Collegiate estate that spans the city. The team manages a private metropolitan fibre network that is more than 55km long, and provides routed networking, telephony and wireless services to more than 180 institutions. Jon and his team have the complex challenge of delivering consistent service levels to an asymmetric and varied customer base.

Jon joined the University of Cambridge in 2005, and was responsible for IT support and infrastructure at the School of Clinical Medicine prior to taking up his current role at UIS. Outside work, he enjoys rowing, distance running, five-a-side football, cycling and any other activity that involves minimal technology and maximum fresh air.
