Presentation on covert communication that use the Domain Name Service (DNS) as a means to embed hidden messages. The talk will outline the importance of covert channels in the wider context of information security and will detail a number of cases where DNS based covert channels have been used to ex-filtrate private data. This talk will show the significance of the DNS protocol and its weaknesses in the wider information security context and why cyber security analysts and practitioners need to pay more attention to it in order to truly secure their networks.
