LT4: Infrastructure automation with Salt
High Performance Computing and Virtual Machine clusters contain large numbers of nodes that require management. Some requiring identical configurations across large estates and some single instances of specific settings.
Research IT in Trinity use the configuration management tool Salt for orchestration of 500+ physical and virtual machines and are starting to use it to help manage core services such as DNS.
This lightening talk will outline some of the use cases and implementations in Trinity to manage infrastructure in a scalable, granulated, repeatable, automated, efficient and [additional buzzword] manner. It will focus on how salt creates a repository of recipes for such buzzword soup that can be re-used easily.
