John Ronan has a BSc in Applied Computing, an MSc in Computer Science by Research from Waterford Institute of Technology and has over 20 years’ experience working in ICT research and development. He has recently returned from career break where he assisted several SMEs by developing infrastructure improvements for both fixed and mobile broadband connectivity solutions as well as deisign and deployment of network and storage infrastructure upgrades.

Prior to this he has worked across a range of EU, EI and InterReg projects in the areas of Community WiFi deployments, Security for Mobile Network Services, IPv6 deployment, and Network security. He has published and been cited in the areas of Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networks, Packet Radio Networks (AX.25), Security and Routing both at conferences and in journals. Since returning from career break he has been working on the next versions of storage and virtualisation infrastructure in TSSG.

John is an active volunteer with the Irish Civil Defence holding the rank of 1st Officer. As communications instructor he regularly experiments with DTN, IoT and location based services with a view to deploment in voluntary first responder scenarios. He also holds a CEPT Class 1 Radio Experimenter License.
