Darren Platts


Darren Platts has taught Woodwork and Construction studies for over twenty years. He holds a B.Sc degree and currently oversees the ICT administration in Bandon Grammar School. This job entails the sourcing, solving, teaching and implementation of all aspects of ICT within the school. He is an integral part of the school ICT team that has revamped the school ICT infrastructure and is well skilled in networking and virtual desktop systems. He is an expert in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.

He is also very well known in Irish hockey circles having coached BGS senior boys to various Munster and All Ireland winning teams.

The efforts of Darren and his co-presenter Trevor have been recognised by various bodies both locally and nationally. They won the IT@Cork excellence in education awards as well as receiving a prize in the National Digital Media Awards. Their efforts have been praised and endorsed by pillars of the ICT industry and key stakeholders in Irish education. They are passionate about improving ICT infrastructure in education and are currently working with partners in the ICT industry to improve teaching and learning in Ireland.

They both are part of the ‘DOTIE’ project (Donating Old Technology Into Education) where they source second hand computers, refurbish them and make these available to local primary schools for free. They also run the local Bandon Coder-Dojo, a computer club for kids. Members of this group have won various awards at national level over the last few years.
