Cloud evolution within IT has created an opportunity for third level institutes to expand and redefine how IT services are provided to students. However, providing this environment is itself problematic. As with any project on cutting-edge technology there is no well-defined and tested road-map and usually best practices have yet to be defined.

Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) have spent the last year re-designing and re-engineered our private cloud infrastructure to support a new methodology for delivering our virtual desktop environment for students of CIT. This lighting talk will provide an insight into how the environment was developed and assist in defining best practices for supporting these types of environments.
