DSI Michael Gubbins
Michael has been a member of an Garda Síochána for over 28 years and has been engaged in the area of computer forensics and cybercrime investigation since 1997 when he was first assigned to the Computer Crime Investigation Unit (CCIU).
During this period Michael has worked as a Detective Garda, Detective Sergeant and Detective Inspector at the CCIU. As of the 1st September 2016 Michael is now the Detective Superintendent in charge of the newly formed Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau.
Michael has been Financial Manager for a number of Garda AGIS & ISEC projects including the ISEC 2008 project " Cybercrime investigation — Developing and disseminating an accredited International Training programme for the future" which resulted in 28 European Law Enforcement Officers including Michael being awarded a Masters in Forensic Computing & Cybercrime Investigation (MSc FCCI) from University College Dublin (UCD).
Michael represents an Garda Síochána on various Europol & European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) fora including the European Computer Training and Education Group (ECTEG), European Multidisciplinary Platform against Criminal Threats (EMPACT) and the European Union Cybercrime Task Force (EUCTF) of which he is a board member. As head of the Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau Michael participates at the Banking Payment Federation Ireland (BPFI), High Tech Crime Forum and the Irish Telecommunications Security Fraud Forum (ITSFF).
