LT05: CEPH as a storage backend

Speakers

Jaime Ibar - TCD

Ceph is an open source software designed to facilitate highly scalable object, block and file-based storage under one whole system.

Research IT in Trinity use Ceph as a storage backend for OpenNebula. We mainly use the block storage for the running VMs and raw storage and the posix-compliant file system for storing the VM description files and presenting them to OpenNebula nodes.

As Ceph is horizontally scalable by design, expansion is a straightforward and relatively cheap process.

This lightning talk will give an overview on how Ceph is deployed, upgraded and maintained in Trinity depending on projects and users needs.
